The Avon Association of Drama host their annual one act drama awards in February each year, as part of the All England Theatre Festival. This year’s competition took place at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall between Wednesday 18th – Saturday 21st February, hosted by The Sodbury Players. The adjudicator was Colin Dolley, GODA.
Backwell Playhouse Won
The Backwell Playhouse Theatre Company won The Alexander Trophy for Overall Winning Production for “Travels with My Aunt”. Also awarded the Richard Brayshaw Cup for Technical Achievement.
Also Nominated For
Nominated for Best Costume, Best Actor (Michael Houghton) and Best Actress (all three female performers: Alison Riddiford, Helen Coupe, Colette Buckley).
All England Theatre Festival
“Travels With My Aunt” progresses to the Quarter-Finals of the All England Theatre Festival, performing at the Olympus Theatre, Filton, Bristol on the 18th April. “Travels with My Aunt” was written by Graham Greene and adapted by Giles Havergal. The script was reduced to a 50 minute one act show by the Playhouse Company, with permission from Giles Havergal. The one-act performance has a cast of 6 (3 actors and 3 actresses). It is directed by Terry Milton.
Previously, The Backwell Playhouse Theatre Company first performed the full length production in May 2014, with a cast of 9, frequently changing characters, even between actors.

The Theatre Company are also currently rehearsing a triple bill of plays, performing Wed 20th-Saturday 23rd May at the Playhouse.
The Playhouse will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday 2nd May between 10am-5pm as part of the North Somerset Arts Week.
